storytelling grant

At INDIE, we jokingly frame ourselves as more A24 than a16z. But with the response to the videos we’ve been putting out this year, we’ve been thinking: What if we made it a reality?

We believe that there is a bright and optimistic future — led by tech, culture, and humanity at large. However, the current way we fund and frame that future is incredibly narrow and dominated by a startup community that seems stuck in its own echo chamber, parroting the same, tired playbooks back at each other.

There’s a big opportunity to tell stories that inspire and highlight the work of a much wider range of up-and-coming entrepreneurs. We’re looking to fund people who want to tell these stories of untold pasts and unlimited futures. While we’re encouraged by the response to our videos, we’re a small team with limited bandwidth.

We’re looking to scale that ambition by backing visual creators who want to explore similar worlds through their own perspectives, tastes, and aesthetics. What’s that look like? You tell us. All we know is it’s probably not another podcast. From Gonzo journalism to fictional entrepreneurial tales, from newly formatted funding competitions to investigative journalism and documentary-style profiles of individuals, companies or movements, we want all forms of ambitious visual storytelling to educate and inspire the next generations of startup founders.
